Fernsehtrum
 
-Fernsehturm is a television tower in the center of Berlin
-
Built between 1965 and 1969
-
Height of the tower: 368.03 m (1,207.4 ft)
-
The Fernsehturm is the tallest structure in Germany
-
The original total height of the tower was 1,198 ft --- 1,207 ft after the
installation of a new antenna in the 1990s
-There is a visitor platform and a revolving restaurant in the middle of the
sphere.
-The visitor platform is at a height of about 669 ft above the ground and
visibility can reach 26 mi on a clear day
-The restaurant rotates once every 30 minutes. Originally it turned once per
hour. The speed was doubled in the late 90s
-Steel stairway with 986 steps
-Observation deck at 203.78 m
-Inside the shaft are two lifts that shuttle visitors up to the sphere of the
tower within 40 seconds.
-When the sun shines on the stainless steel dome, the reflection usually
appears in the form of a cross which was not predicted or desired by planners


Funkturm

-Built as one large steel frame construction similar to the Eiffel Tower
-Little over 150 m high
-Radio tower was originally planned strictly as a transmitting tower, but later additions:
-Restaurant at a height of approximately 52m
-Observation deck at a height of approximately 125 m. Visitors reach the restaurant and the observation deck by an elevator
-
September 3, 1926:
Radio tower opened to the public
-
March 22, 1935: From an antenna of the top of the radio tower, the first
regular television program of the world is transmitted
-August 22, 1935: Major fire in the exhibition hall at the radio tower destroys
all transmission devices at the radio tower and also burned out the restaurant.
-April 19, 1945: One of the four legs of the tower at a height of 38 meters was
damaged. The restaurant is again burned out.
-May 28, 1950: The tower restaurant reopens

Rathaus Schoneberg
 
-The Rathaus Schoneberg located on Rudolph-Wilde-Platz was created between 1911-1914
-It was created for Schoneberg which was not incorporated into Berlin until 1920.
-It's the City Hall for the Borough of Tempelhof-Schoneberg
-temporarily served as the city hall for West Berlin when Berlin was split up
-after being reunited Rathaus Schoneberg returned to its original purpose.
-Rathause Schoneberg was the location of President John F. Kennedy's famous speech "Ich bin ein Berliner" (which means "I am a citizen of Berlin") in 1963 which the square was renamed for
after his assasination.
The square is now known as John-F.-Kennedy-Platz. He was expressing his support (United States support) for West Berlin. There is also a large plaque dedicated to Kennedy and part of the building and room are dedicated to
Kennedy and his family.
-It also houses an exhibition on Willy Brandt's life who lived from 1913-1992. He was the Mayor of West Berlin between 1957-1966 and Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany 1969-1974.

Schloss Bellevue

-It's a palace built for Prince Ferdinand of Prussia as a summer residence.
-It was designed and constructed by Phillip Daniel Boumann an architect.
-Schloss Bellevue was the first Neoclassical building in Germany with two wings and Corinthian columns. The wings were named "ladies' Wing" and "Spree Wing"
-The building is surrounded by a park
-It was the residence for the Crowned Prince of Germany until 1918. And on September 3, 1870 the treaty ending the Franco- Prussian War was signed there.
-Damaged in May 1945 at the end of the Second World War it needed refurbishment which occurred in the 1950's, again in 1986-87. It was reconstructed between 2004-05 to fix defects from earlier renovations.
-The presidential standard is flown on top of the palace unless the
president takes official residence elsewhere.
-It is currently used for the official seat of the German President as
it has been since 1994.
