Baader-Meinhof Complex

The movie I though did a pretty good job at trying to protray what happened.  The Movie started with people protesting.  The people protesting broke the signs off their sign posts and started beating people. This shocked me because I started watching the movie without knowing what it was about.  It took me by surprise.  The movie in all was very confusing with the English subtitles and trying to watch the action as well.  But I did get that they were fighting for something and kept getting shut down anyway possible.  I feel that it was good to stand up for what they believed but took action in the wrong way. 

Rote Armee Fraktion

The Rote Armee Frakion was in 1970-1998.  It was part of a violent WWII wing.  It was founded by Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin, Horst Mahler, and Ulrike Meinhof. It was responsible for thirty four deaths.  "Baader-Meinhof Gang" and "Baader-Meinhof Group" or just "Baader-Meinhof" are sometimes used as nicknames for the organization. "Through its bombs and manifestos the RAF confronted the state with opposition at a level many activists today might find difficult to imagine."


I feel like the raf is not really like todays terroism.  I think that yes we do have terrorism but not to the extent that the RAF went.  I think that the only act of terroism that we have had recently is 9/11.  All other terrism is not as public ad the Raf was.

Why the EU will continue to be a pivotal organization for Germany in the 21st century

1.Greater freedom of travel- because Germany goes abroad more than any other European country and Europe offers freedom of travel.

2. More exports for the German economy- 2/3 of German exports find their way to EU states.  And Europe has the largest single market in the world.

3. More exchange- in Europe you can live, work and study abroad.  So in Germany the country thrives for exchange with other European states. 

4.  Greater internal safety- offers strict border control and immigration policies. 

5. More democracy and prosperity- offers people with stabiltiy and prosperity in their own country, snd Germany benifits from this.

1.Kelsey Kubiak
Really seemed interested in what she was talking about.  Has all the posts needed for the assignments and the formatting was easy and enjoyable to read.  I also liked the background of the blog.
2.Andresen, Kevin
Easy to read and had many pictures to go along with what was being addressed.  Very structured and organized which made reading this blog more enjoyable.
3.Teachout, Jenita
Eveything was easy to read and formatted very nice. It had all the blog postings and seemed really interested in the topics talked about.  Images were very clear and really helped enhance the blog.

All Quiet on the Western Front class discussion

In class we discussed the book All quiet on the Western Front.  We spent the majority of the time talking about your loss of identity once you leave the war.  When you enter the war so young you havent really found yourself yet.  The war is seperating you from society.  Once you return to society you dont have an identity.  All you have is honor of being in the war and today they are not appreciated enough for what they have done then what they should.  Its hard coming back from the war because others cannot relate to you.  Its hard to regain an identity and thats why many people return to the war.  We also talked about how this book makes us feel.  This book is depressing.  Its written in first person to put you in the main characters shoes.  This makes you feel more sad for what they are going through if you feel you are going through it yourself.

I watched Wie lange arbeiten für wieviel Rente for the first 20 minutes and i have no idea what they were actually saying but it was about different kinds of hidden cameras.  They showed hidden camersa and security cameras.  They showed hidden cameras at the gym, outsode buildings, and at the bank.  I also watched Amokläuferin war Sportschützin which was about some kind of tragedy.  I seen many police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances. I also watched a little bit of Das Wetter. I learned that tomorrow it is suppost to be really couldy with rain in the northern partof germany and on friday it is suppost to get colder.  

WDR 2

I listened to one hour of the WDR 2 radio station and was surprised that I knew almost every song.  Their was a wide variety of songs from every music types.  Their was pop, county, and even some rock. All of the songs were in English and the commericals were in German.  Although I could'nt understand any of the commerical, I did notice that the commerical are shorter and not as many. I liked this difference because the less commercial the better, the more music you listen too.  I really enjoyed listening to this radio station and would listen to it on my own time.  WDR 2 link

German print media reviewed

It says that 78% of Germans read the newspaper. Which is more than in the United States.  At first glance at one of the newspapers I soon realized one major difference.  In America are newspapers are boring and really conservative.  But when I glanced at the first newspaper I saw pictures of a guy giving the middle finder, people drinking beer, and more sexualized images.  This is not what you would expect from an American Newspaper.  I also noticed that most of the newspapers are offered in the U.S. as well. I also seen that there is many magazines that we have in the U.S. as well. Examples include: Cosmopolitan, Living at Home, Elle and Readers Digest. Also some of the newspaper run daily and some weekly.  In the U.S. the newspaper runs daily. Its very interesting looking at the difference in German and American printed media.

 When looking at all the states I realized that their was both English and German stations.  All the commericals were in German but a lot of the music was in English.  Yes I do think that mass media is more globalized because music in universal.  You don't have to know the language to like a song. Or you can like songs from your second language.  I think that it means that we have similar tastes in music when the patterns are so similar.  We enjoy the same kinds of music and it brings us together.  I do think that music explains are culture and thats one way it does survive. In germany the radio has German and English radio stations.  It was interesting to me that their is such a wide spread in the number of radio stations in each state.
